Installation with Chinese Ink Paintings on Rice Paper

The Ancients kept a skull on their work desk as a reminder of the inevitable – Death. A way to focus on what mattered.

Art can have the same function – to confront us with what is at stake.

Two paintings – two elements as energetic archetypes from Qi Gong Water and Fire – energy at rest, and energy expanding – energy that is thrown out of balance today.

There is a collective fear for a world at war and a foreboding sense of dread at the forceful and needless extinguishing of lives.

There is a collective mania of a society we have created through time, our technological ‘progress’ and socio-cultural apparatus. A form of ‘burnout society’, where we constantly push ourselves towards more achievement, performance and consumption.

We need to reclaim Art as a part of our everyday lives. Through a simple practice of confronting ourselves with our collective feelings at the work desk, we can set ourselves on a path – small steps to make a true difference in the world. To heal ourselves, each other, and the Earth from which we come.
