THE WORK OF ART IN THE AGE OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE

This text was written as part of an installation. Additional text was written from the point of view of Artificial Intelligence (AI): a half-human, half-machine, all-knowing Entity - a certain kind of identity we like to ascribe to it.

This text makes no such pretence. At a time when we are surrounded by the raucous din of whether AI-generated-Art is art or not art, perhaps it is time to turn back to Walter Benjamin’s “The Work of Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction”. Shining the insights from his seminal text on the present situation, we arrive at the question - not whether AI-generated-Art is or is not art, but whether AI has changed the entire nature of making art.
